Waiting...
It had been three -close to four- days now since the boy's father had left him there in that dormitory room. Without so much as a proper goodbye at that. But that just seemed to be the way that the old man was. And after all, at least Alphonse thought, what was the point of saying goodbye when they were sure to meet again soon?
He could hardly wait. Just as soon as his father came back from doing whatever it was that needed to be done, Al would be able to spend a lot more time with Hohenheim. And then from there, he'd be able to get his old body back.
All he had to do was just be patient.
...and waiting...
Edward hadn't been so thrilled about the plans, for the obvious reasons. No matter what way Al had tried to explain, his older brother continued to spit back at him the fact that if it weren't for plain dumb luck, they probably wouldn't have even ran into the old man at all.
Since that day, Ed had been going off on his own into Central a lot more often, staying gone for hours at the time. Tonight was no different. The blonde had left a good while earlier in the day, spouting something about needing to get out and cool off for a while. He gave a little assurance that he'd be back in a while, so Alphonse had dug out a couple of books to read to try and pass the time.
The minutes turned into very long hours, and soon it began to grow dark outside. The books, long since abandoned, still remained on the table beside the couch while the hulking suit of armor paced a few feet away from the door. His big brother should have been back at least two hours or so. Yet here it was, already after nine, and Alphonse hadn't gotten so much as a phone call. He'd definately give Ed a word or two.. once he got back.

~October 6, 1914 - Evening~
Freedom at last.
He had spent far too much time cooped up in the same room as his elder brother, so when both of their repairs were complete and the blonde had said something about wanting to go out, Alphonse gave him no lip about staying, or wanting to go with him for that matter.
The suit of armor now trailed alongside one of the alleys surrounding the hospital, not wanting to cause another incident like when they had been in East City. Last thing he wanted was to have half the military searching for him just because Ed had wandered off and lost track of him.
The boy was in for some luck, an invisible smile curling as he spotted a black mound of fur curled up on top of a caved in box. Alphonse settled down beside the stray, letting out a quiet mew before reaching a leather gloved hand to scritch the cat behind the ears.

Just how long had it been now? The armor's helmet laid somewhere amongst a pile of debris, his body likely caught under something heavy enough to keep it pinned down. Either that or it was torn to pieces. He couldn't really tell, outside of the fact that either way, he was unable to move an inch. And given his limited line of view, Alphonse couldn't see much besides broken wood, twisted metal, and the occassional flickering light as a rescuer came through looking for any more bodies.
The boy hadn't seen or heard from his brother since he had seen him falling down through the deteriorating train car. It hadn't been a few seconds more when he himself had fallen through, blanking out until finally regaining 'conciousness' (he guessed) a few hours later. His first instinct had been to get up and look for his older brother, but unfortunately his missing body tossed that idea out the window rather quickly.
Speaking was out of the question. For now anyways. If anyone were to hear the boy, they would start searching for a body that wasn't going to be there, wasting time to save someone's life who actually needed to be saved. So for the time being he had nothing to do but sit there, listening to people's cries for help.
It had to be close to daybreak now. The cries were dying down finally, a good sign hopefully that the survivors had all been taken to the hospital. He could only hope now that Edward was one of them. Now if only someone Al knew would save HIM.

~October 1, 1914 - Late Evening~
The decision to follow Roy's convoy back to Central had been a bit of a last minute decision on the brothers' part, seeing as how the only remaining train that would be heading in that direction left from East City late that evening.
Alphonse wasn't particularly happy, because he had told the owner of the animal shelter that he would stop by to help the next few days. But when Edward made a decision to go somewhere, it meant they both had to go, much to the younger boy's dismay. The kittens and puppies would just have to wait until the next time that Al was in East City.
Because of this late decision though, the Elric's were stuck having to seat themselves in one of the passenger cars in the back of the train. But as long as they had a ride, and Al wasn't stuck in cargo, they were happy enough.
The train ride started normally enough. The boys had decided for the first part of the ride to partake in a card game to pass the time until Edward felt the he should get some sleep. Then Al would stay up (not that he had much of a choice) in case they arrived early so that he could wake his older brother and get off.
Alphonse finally put their suitcase away, holding a small deck of cards as he took a seat across from the elder brother. "No cheating this time, okay brother?" The armor reminded the shorter alchemist as he pulled the cards from their container, shuffling them carefully on the miniature table between them before dealing them out.
Little did Al know that his brother's bad habit of cheating would be the least of their concerns on this particular train ride.

~September 27, 1914 - Afternoon~
This morning had been rather rocky, what with the Colonel being hospitalized, Edward going there to see and eventually causing a ruckus, AND running into their teacher again. If Ed hadn't have allowed him to follow after Rose, he would have snapped for sure.
Lunch with the girl at the Sunflower Restuarant was very nice. Well, it looked very nice anyways. Alphonse refused to order anything, even though it was usually in these sort of situations he would sneak something back for Edward, but after that stunt in the hospital and making poor Rose upset? Besides, the older brother had said something to the effect of coming later on to join them.
Al preferred it better that he not come and interupt since for once he was enjoying getting to spend time alone with a girl.
After some while of chatting and trying to pass the time waiting for the elder Elric to arrive, the two decided to move along with their plans of figuring out where the animal shelter was. Nearly the entire time they walked she had stayed by him, telling a few stories of her own about when she had arrived here in the city and began working for the hospital.
And, in the boy's mind at least, he was on an actual date. Although Rose might has noted otherwise.
Before too long the couple found the house that they were looking for, only a few blocks away from the hospital. The suit of armor squeeked for joy as he went inside, and had to go around at least twice to pet and coo (which, according to the owner of the shelter had been a real sight to see) at all of the animals that had taken residence in the temporary home. Oh yes, he'd definately be coming here often. In fact, Alphonse had been told by the owner that he was welcome to come at any time and help out with the animals, since the boy was able to get along so well with them despite the frightening armor he 'wore'.
An extremely happy Alphonse now made his way back to the hospital, escorting Rose and bowing politely as he thanked her for such a great time today, and of course apologizing again for the way his brother had acted, and the fact that he never showed up to join them.
Without saying too much more, the armored boy turned and made his way back to the military dorms to wait on his older brother. When he arrived, Al sat down on the steps in front of their dorm, staring up at the sky and releasing a dreamy little sigh. If only he still had his own body...

It had been some time now since he had been escorted back to the main headquarters so that he might rejoin with his older brother again. But so far his searching had turned up nothing at all. Alphonse was almost tempted to go and see if perhaps he was inside somewhere, but figured it might be rude to just suddenly burst in and interupt anyone when surely Edward would come back around this way soon.
Ugh. Just forget about him anyways. If he hasn't found you by now he isn't going to.
The armored boy sighed, settling down on the steps where he had been dropped off. "Brother will come back for me. I know he will." He trailed off quietly to himself, a finger tracing idly on one of the steps.

"Miameow!"
The younger Elric had suddenly found himself in a dark alleyway. Glowing orbs blinking in confusion, he gave a quick look around, trying to remember how he had even gotten there in the first place. "What the.." Alphonse trailed off, noticing a small kitten that happened to be shivering at his feet.
"Oh. I see now." So he had come in there after finding the kitten, or at least he assumed. He kneeled down, stroking it gently on the head before getting back up and starting towards the entrance of the alley. Slowly he peeked around the corner, looking up the sidewalk one way, then the next. His older brother didn't seem to be anywhere around. Oh well. It wouldn't really THAT hard to find a seven foot tall suit of armor, would it?
Al made his way back over to the kitten again, once more petting it lightly on the head. For a few moments though he paused, glancing cautiously towards the street before sitting down, then eventually curling up beside the small cat, making soft mewing noises.
((If I don't respond right away I apologize, because we have a hurricane heading through this area. As well as the fact that this evening I still might possibly have to work *curses work for this* At any rate, I'll be back as soon as I can))
